Welcome to Eastwood Middle School, Home of the Huskies. Eastwood
Middle School (EMS) seeks to provide a strong research-based educational
experience for middle school students. The educational program includes
the four core courses (math, language arts, science, and social studies),
physical education and an exploratory course (band, music, family and
consumer sciences, art, and career technical).
The mission of Eastwood Middle School is to empower students with the
skills necessary to continue their education and to take responsibility
for
their lives. We will place students at the forefront of an ever changing
society
by interlocking systems of school, family, and community. An emphasis will
be placed on academic excellence through integrated technology, quality
instruction, career exploration and personal social development.
Beliefs: Every child can learn. Every child has the right to learn.
Children will
rise to the level of expectation of their instructors. School should be a
safe
and orderly place. Every child should be given opportunities and
challenges.
Children must develop socially, emotionally and educationally. School
should
be a rewarding memorable experience.
The administration, faculty, and staff at Eastwood Middle School believe
that
this is a school where adults and students want to come to succeed. We
foster a community based on kindness, cooperation, educational challenge,
inclusion, and creativity.
We believe that the role of Eastwood Middle School is to teach the entire
child as they mature intellectually, physically, emotionally, and
socially. We
strive to build a strong school community that will allow students to
become
active and contributing young citizens.
If you are an incoming sixth grader, I welcome you to a new experience. If
you are one of our seventh or eighth graders, I look forward to your
leadership as we embark on the 2009-2010 school year. I encourage all
students and parents to read the Tuscaloosa City Schools´ Code of Conduct
as well as the EMS student handbook. Should you have any questions about
these documents or anything else, do not hesitate to contact us.
